This Is Halloween

As the Christmas season draws to an end, it is time to take down the decorations and put my alternative Christmas playlist to bed - and with it the only Marilyn Manson performance to grace my music collection.

At this stage I will put my hands up and say that I don't know much about Marilyn Manson. The little that I do know has led me to believe that I probably wouldn't particularly like his music.

I also often find Danny Elfman (composer of the music from The Simpsons, Edward Scissorhands, Kick Ass, Men In Black, Spiderman, Batman, Mission: Impossible, Mars Attacks, Terminator 3, Hellboy 2,  etc. etc.) overly fiddly and knowingly quirky.

But I do suggest that the world would be a significantly better place if Elfman and Manson formed a band together.

The basis for this slightly left-field assertion is the song 'This Is Halloween' which Danny Elfman composed for the animated film-musical 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. The original song is great:

But, throughout the Christmas season, Marilyn Manson's version has topped my Spotify playlist. In fact, it has shot straight into my top 5 tunes of all time (currently number 2 behind permanently-fixed-number-one-position 'Fairytale of New York').

Here is the same film footage with the Marilyn Manson cover version replacing the original soundtrack.

Does anyone agree with me? This may be one of those situations where I'm out on a distant limb.
